Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has decided to wind up his Russian football development programme that saw the Chelsea owner plough tens of millions of dollars into the sport in Russia in recent years, his representative said on Wednesday.

Billionaire Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich has resigned as chairman of the Chukotka Autonomous Region Duma. It is understood his decision was in order to comply with new laws prohibiting official from having foreign assets.

Russian metals giants Evraz – part-owned by Russian billionaire and Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich – and Polymetal have dropped out of the UK’s FTSE 100 index after major falls in their stock value, following a regular index review.

He may have crashed out of Russia's 10 richest people list, but Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich tops the list for generosity, spending $310 million on charity out of his fortune of $12.8 billion in the past three years.
The Sunday Times has published its annual Rich List, which this year includes three Russians in the top five, two of those in the top two. Taking the No 1 slot is Alisher Usmanov, the owner of Metalloinvest metals giant and a major shareholder in London's Arsenal Football Club.

Following an autopsy on Monday, UK police have announced that the death of former Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky, found at his Ascot home on March 23, is "consistent with hanging". They also said there was no sign of any struggle.
