The World Athletics Championship kicked off in Moscow on Saturday, August 10th. Ten sets of awards were competed for on the first day of the Moscow championship. In the women’s marathon Edna Kiplagat from Kenya defended her World Champion title, which she won in South Korea some time ago. She needed 2 hours 25 minutes 44 seconds to cover a distance of 42. 195 km. Silver went to Valeria Straneo from Italy. Edna Kiplagat beat Valeria Straneo by 14 seconds, and Kayoko Fukushi finished third and took bronze.
