Twelve years ago Belgium legalised euthanasia for adults. Recently the country's parliament voted to allow euthanasia for children. The bill expected to be signed by the king will make Beilguim the first country in the world to use the practice. With 75% of the population generally supporting the measure, there is strong opposition to it coming from religious groups and some of the pediatricians. The issue has opend up a lot of room for debate, but at the end of the day, are children really capabale of making such a difficult decision? Voice of Russia discussed this issue with experts Anna Sonkina, pediatrician and palliative care specialist, and also a teacher of medical aspects, based in Moscow, and Rita Marker, Executive Director of the Patients’ Rights Council.
