The final games of the year were held over the weekend and on Monday and the team’s are now on a much deserved break.

So 19 games are behind us and there are 11 more to go with the next match week kicking off on the 10th of March.

Actually Russian football fans will get to see some top action a month earlier than that… when three Russian teams will start their hunt for the title in the Europa League.

That’s right, the knock out stage of the continent’s second most significant club tournament starts on February the fourteenth. And Russian clubs participating will be Zenit St. Petersburg, who failed to qualify from the group stage of the Champions League; Anzhi Makhachkala and Rubin Kazan.

Meanwhile the Russian football coaches have named Zenit’s midfielder, Roman Shirokov as the country’s best player in 2012. Roman Shirokov is one of the brightest players in the Russian Premier League and a key part of the national team’s recent success… as well as an integral part of Luciano Spaletti’s Zenit.

The 31-year-old scored for Russia in the 4-1 win against the Czech Republic at the European championships in Poland and Ukraine and looks set to further enhance Fabio Capello’s Russia.

So Roman Shirokov topped the list of best players with 17 points, while the second spot was shared by his Zenit teammate, Igor Denisov, and Samuel Eto’o from Anzhi. Let’s now take mention those who made it into top ten.
