This Monday an important meeting took place in Beijing as Xi Jinping, the new General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, met Lien Chan the honorary chairman of the Kuomintang - the ruling party in Taiwan. Why is the meeting important? What is the current state of relations between China and Taiwan?

Why is the meeting important? What is the current state of relations between China and Taiwan? What are the goals of the Beijing’s strategy regarding Taiwan and what are the potential obstacles in its way?
