Last Wednesday President Obama unveiled the most sweeping proposals for curbing gun violence in two decades, the $500 million gun-control package includes more than a dozen executive orders aimed at stricter gun control, bans on assault weapons and ammunition magazines holding more than 10 bullets, along with a requirement for universal background checks on gun buyers.
However the majority House Republicans are rejecting the proposals. Some opponents of the bill are even hinting the proposals are targeting Americans’ constitutional rights.
So what is it the US president has proposed? How could it change the security situation in the US and what is the general gun-control practice in other countries?
We’re discussing these and other issues with our guest speakers Russian lawyer Alexei Binetsky, Bhaskar Roy, Consultant with the India-based South Asia Analysis Group, and retired Lieutenant Colonel Marcel De Hass, from the Netherlands.
