Georgia: landslide kills three Turkish workers, blocks river, disrupts gas supply to Armenia

A landslide in the Dariali Gorge in Georgia has killed at least three Turkish workers employed in the construction of a hydropower plant, Georgian media reported on Saturday with reference to local residents.

The landslide blocked an entrance to a tunnel, where people could have possibly been trapped, and damaged a trunk gas pipeline running from Russia to Armenia across Georgia, thus disrupting gas supply.

The landslide also blocked the River Terek's streambed, which is potentially fraught with the flooding of the nearby populated areas, and so the people are currently being evacuated from them.
