30 aircrafts of Russian Emergency Situations Ministry extinguish wildfires in Far East, Siberia

EMERCOM uses over 30 aircrafts to extinguish wildfires in the Far East and Siberia, the authority's spokesperson Alexander Drobyshevsky said on Saturday.

"As of Saturday morning, in Russia continue 103 wildfires at 27,412 hectares, including big 26 wildfires in the Far East and in Siberia," he said.

On Friday, 147 new fires began at 12,509 hectares, and 150 were extinguished at 5,437 hectares. Emergency situation has been introduced in the regions with most complicated situations - in the Amur region, in the Maritime and Baikal territories, he said.

The space monitoring has located 1,587 thermal points, where 1,362 thermal point were confirmed later on. Over 800 specialised vehicles, 30 aircrafts and 3,247 people are involved in extinguishing of the wildfires. Besides, 100 rescuers with knapsack fire extinguishers are working on the sites.

"On Friday, the aviation made 17 flights, 107 droppings of 1,175 litres of water."

EMERCOM is using in the Far East and Siberia planes Be-200 and Il-76, and helicopters Mi-8 and Mi-26.

More than 100 forest fires were registered in the Far East during the day

In the Far East region 111 forest fires were registered per night, 48 of which were eliminated, according to Department of Forestry.

"73 fires were registered in Primorye, 15 in the Amur region, 12 in the Jewish Autonomous Region and 11 in the Khabarovsk region," said in a statement.

According to the Department, 63 fires have not been put down, 42 of which are in the Primorsky region, six in the Jewish Autonomous Region, seven in the Khabarovsk region, eight in the Amur region.

21 out of the active fires have been localized.

"Area that was damaged by the fire today covers about 3 hectares. Most of the territory is located in the Primorye region," said in a statement.

It is also announced that yesterday, on April, 17 the chief of Primorsky Krai of Forestry Department was sent to the region to provide guidance in the protection of forests from fires.

More than a thousand people have been involved in eliminating the fire as well as 219 pieces of equipment, 11 aircrafts, including five helicopters.

Since the beginning of the fire season 1006 fires were registered on the territory ​​of more than 90.6 thousand hectares.

For the same period in 2013 eight fires were registered in the area of 715 hectares.
