President Putin's income 2 Mln rubles down year-on-year - declaration

The reason why President Vladimir Putin earned less for 2013 than for 2012 is that he was not paid compensation for unused leave last year, his spokesman said.

"In 2012 he did receive compensation for unused leave, but in 2013 there was no compensation," Dmitry Peskov told Interfax. According to the Russian president's income and property declaration posted on his website, his total earnings for 2013 were 2,118,615 rubles lower than those for 2012 and amounted to a little more than 3.6 million rubles.

The income of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev also dropped year-on-year. He earned 4.26 million rubles for 2013 or 1.6 million less than for 2012, according to his declaration.

His spokeswoman, Natalya Timakova, told reporters the reason for the decrease was that the 2012 declaration recorded his presidential earnings as well as what he earned as premier.
