Russia to impose reciprocal sanctions against US and EU
"We are prepared for any succession of events. We hope there will be specific political sanctions and not a pack of trade and economic sanctions," Alexey Likhachev said.
The day before, the US president Barak Obama said after the meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk that the US and other countries will "act so that Russia would pay dear for its policy unto Ukraine."
Today the European Parliament will adopt a resolution on Russia, considering Ukrainian crisis. The resolution notes the act of aggression against Ukraine from the part of Russia and Russia's intervention in the Crimea. The resolution regards these actions as " violation of Ukrainian sovereignty and its territorial integrity. These actions contradict the international regulations and Russia's obligations as a country that signedthe Budapest Memorandum, which provides security to Ukraine."
Meanwhile, Russia has repeatedly claimed that sanctions of the West would cause a lot of harm. Russian President Vladimir Putin says that "these sanctions are harmful and unproductive." He noted that those, who impose the sanctions should consider their results and that the damage would be mutual. "I think that in the modern world, where everyone depends on each other, one can damage its partner, but this damage will be mutual. The West should consider this fact," Putin said.
