The thing is that UEFA’s 54 members voiced concerns over extreme weather conditions in the World Cup host country.
The football championship is scheduled for June of 2022 and the problem is that temperatures in Qatar can reach up to 50C in summer time that is of course not very convenient for playing football to say the least.
That’s why a great number of countries raised the question about moving the biggest football spectacle to the winter months where heat will not disrupt World Cup matches.
But if FIFA agrees to stage the showcase in winter it could coincide with another important sports festival – winter Olympics that will be held in January and February.
The IOC members expressed hopes that FIFA would discuss the World Cup timing issue with them in order to find the best solution to the problem.
If the 2022 World Cup is held in December it would clash with the Champions League matches, plus national federations would need to alter their domestic calendars.
Meanwhile, the organizers of the 2022 World Cup have assured everybody they would be able to carry out the championship in summer as they plan to build air-conditioned stadiums and create comfortable conditions for public areas, walkways and training pitches.
