Japan sends fighter jets to intercept Chinese plane

On Thursday, Japan scrambled fighter jets to intercept a Chinese government plane flying toward the disputed Senkaku (Diaoyu) islands in the South China Sea, the Japanese Defence Ministry said.

It said that the Chinese plane had approached to a distance of 100 kilometers from the islands’ air space.

This is the fourth such incident this year.

The territorial dispute between Japan and China has aggravated since Tokyo bought the islands in September.

China insists that the islands were illegally seized in the 19th century.
