He added he had voiced his support for granting Depardieu Russian citizenship. The French actor got off the plane in a fur cap, which he said he’d been given as a gift in Mordovia.
This is the second time the French movie star visits Chechnya, the first one being last October, when Depardieu attended Kadyrov’s 36th birthday, where he allegedly chanted: “Glory to Chechnya! Glory to Kadyrov!"
It is expected that during his visit Depardieu will meet with famous actors, directors and students of theater schools, to discuss various projects that could be implemented with the support of the French celebrity.
Gerard Depardieu also shared his plans for shooting a film about Chechnya. “I want to film a movie here to show that one can make a movie in Grozny, a big movie,” the French movie star was cited as saying.
Ramzan Kadyrov hosted a dinner in his honor with a show by Chechen dancers on Sunday. Russian TV showed footage of Depardieu joining in a traditional Caucasus dance with a locally-dressed woman and hugging Kadyrov.
On Sunday, Mr. Depardieu arrived at the regional capital Grozny's airport after receiving his Russian residence registration in the country’s republic of Mordovia. Earlier this year, the Frenchman officially renounced his French citizenship and collected his Russian passport at a meeting with President Putin in Sochi.
