Moscow Jewish Museum to house Schneerson Library?

Boruh Gorin, chief executive of the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center in Moscow, said on Wednesday that his center is ready to accept and house the Schneerson Library, a collection of thousands of old Judaic books and documents.

Earlier this week, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that the Schneerson Library should be moved from the archive of Moscow’s Lenin Library to the building of the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center.

In January 2013, a US court imposed a 50,000-dollar-a-day fine on Russia for failing to comply with an earlier order to hand over the Schneerson Library to the US Hasidic community.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the ruling was unlawful because the Schneerson collection “never left Russian territory and was nationalized.”
