Another Japanese nuclear power plant over potentially active geological fault

Yet another Japanese nuclear power plant is located over a potentially active geological fault, according to the initial conclusions by experts following their visible inspection of the subsurface rock in the environs of the Higashidori nuclear power plant, in Aomori northern prefecture. This came in a statement by the Department for Nuclear Power Surveillance of Japan.

If the negative expectations prove correct, the Tokyo Electric Power Operator Company will have to take a set of measures to protect the nuclear plant from a likely earthquake.

The Higashidori nuclear power plant happens to be the second plant to have been built over a geological fault. Earlier, this kind of fault was discovered under a power-generating unit of the Tsuruga nuclear power plant.
