Al-Qaeda branch in Iraq claims responsibility for spate of attacks in Baghdad

One of the local branches of the international terrorist organization Al-Qaeda has claimed responsibility for a spate of terrorist attacks near Baghdad, where 37 people died on Sunday.

The group, Islamic State of Iraq, has masterminded and carried out a spate of acts of terror in response to Iraq’s Shiite government, which, Islamists claim, infringes on the rights of Sunnis.

Blasts tore through marketplaces and trading sites, in the districts of Al-Amin and Husseinia, and also in a shopping street in the Iraqi capital suburb.
