Iraqi authorities release French journalist on bail

Iraqi authorities have freed on bail a French reporter of “Le Monde Diplomatique”, who was held for three weeks after taking unauthorized photos in Baghdad.

This information was made public by a spokesman for the international organization Reporters without Borders on Thursday.

Nadir Dendoune, currently at the French embassy in Baghdad, cannot leave Iraq until the official court verdict.

The photojournalist is accused of taking unauthorized photos of the building housing national intelligence agencies and police checkpoints. The journalist was in the country to prepare a series of stories marking the upcoming 10th anniversary of the start of the Iraq war.
