UN Secretary-General condemns murder of N. Korean doctors in Nigeria

The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the murder in Nigeria of three North Korean medical doctors.

He described violence against those who save other people’s lives as inadmissible. According to the Nigerian police, the doctors were stabbed to death on Sunday in the house they lived in.

The incident occurred in the area where the radical Islamist group Boko Haram has been active.

Ban Ki-moon said in his statement, circulated at the UN Headquarters that this kind of assault largely limits medical workers’ access to the part of the population that badly needs medical services, therefore, such attacks may have dire consequences for the efforts to improve people’s health anywhere.

The UN Secretary-General urged all nations to ensure the protection of doctors on their territory.
