Ban Ki-moon welcomes national unity government in Central African Republic

The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has welcomed the setting up of a government of national unity in the Central African Republic. He made a special statement to describe this as an important step in the process of reconciliation in the African country.

Ban Ki-moon also pointed out the need for urgent humanitarian aid to be provided for the population of the Central African Republic.

The coalition government under opposition member Nicolas Tiangaye was formed in the country last Sunday.

The new government comprises both former rebels and the national president, Francois Bozize.
