Russia, S Africa to cooperate in deep space research

Russia is offering cooperation to South Africa and Australia in studying "black holes" and galaxy formation.

It believes its Spektr-R orbital radio telescope can be of help in interpreting data obtained by giant ground radio telescopes to be built in those two Southern Hemisphere countries.

Russian Environment and Resources Minister Sergei Donskoy spoke about this at an international mining conference in Cape Town on Monday.

The South African and the Australian telescopes are collectively known as "the Square Kilometer Array."
