Truth Teller can capture a speech and convert it to text in real time using Microsoft Audio Video indexing service (MAVIS). The text is then compared with a data base to look for possible disinformation.
The development of the application started last year, when the Washington Post received a hefty $50,000 grant from the Knight Foundation.
The Truth Teller prototype has been made available in a special WP section, with a full version coming in about three months.
Cory Haik, Washington Post executive producer of digital news, said the key issue was to stuff the app’s database, since the aim of the project was to look for false information, not to make multiply it.
