Ban Ki-moon urges UNSC members to reach agreement on Syria

The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has urged the UN Security Council member-states to thrash out their differences and find a solution for a settlement of the Syrian crisis, which has already claimed over 60,000 lives.

When addressing the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos, he said the parties to the conflict should not be allowed to settle their differences through the use of arms, since this is fraught with sad consequences.

Also, an end must be put to the arming of the parties to the conflict, while an amount of aid to Syrian refugees should be increased, Ban Ki-moon said. The conflict in Syria has been flaring since March 2011. The government in Damascus claims it has to deal with the resistance of well-armed gunmen, who heavily rely on outside support.
