Woman takes over as district head in Afghanistan

Sakhra Sheikib has become the first woman to head a district administration in Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban regime ten years ago, the local Tolo TV channel reports.

She took over as head of the Haja Dokuh district in the northern Jowzjan province. Afghanistan already has a woman governor and a woman minister, and there are many women among members of parliament.

“My key priority will be to make it easier for people to get access to education, health services and other spheres of life,” the channel quotes Sheikib as saying.
