Magnus Carlsen breaks Garry Kasparov's global ranking record

Norwegian chess player Magnus Carlsen has beaten the global ranking record of Russia’s Garry Kasparov.

In the FIDE rating list the grandmaster continues to be confidently in the lead with 2861 points.

The previous record was dated 1999, when Kasparov scored a 2851 score.

In second place in the ranking is Russian Vladimir Kramnik, with Levon Aronian of Armenia closing out the top three.
