Japan pulls out its peacekeepers from Golan Heights

Japan is pulling out its peacekeeping force from the Israeli-occupied Syria’s Golan Heights in the wake of the aggravation of situation there.

This came in a statement in Tokyo by the Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura. The Japanese 50-man strong force, which forms part of the UN peacekeeping contingent, is due to return home within one month.

The peacekeepers have been monitoring the ceasefire between Israel and Syria in the Golan Heights since 1974. But Tokyo feels that the situation has started to spiral out control of the UN force recently.
