China arrests more than 100 doomsday advocates

The Chinese authorities have arrested more than 100 people in seven provinces for allegedly spreading rumors about the end of the world.

According to local media, the detainees were engaged in the distribution of leaflets and the intimidation of citizens.

Most of those arrested belong to a group named "God is the Almighty" whose activities are banned in China.

On Friday, in the central province of Henan, a man with a knife wounded 23 school children apparently influenced by rumors about the end of the world.
