Jeff Zucker, 47, will replace Jim Walton, who has been at the CNN helm since 2003. Mr. Walton announced his decision to step down in July amid a sharp downturn in the channel’s ratings, including those of its prime time shows.
Mr. Zucker took up a position with NBC in 1986. Within three years he was a producer of its Today morning show and an executive producer within another three years. In 2000, he was appointed the head of NBC Entertainment and promoted to the president of NBC Universal in 2007.
In 2011, Jeff Zucker quit NBC after it was taken over by America’s largest cable operator Comcast.
