In all these regions, with the exception of Sakhalin, the party list received more than half the votes.
“United Russia” candidates are similalry in the lead in the governor elections. Regional leaders were elected on Sunday in Amur, Belgorod, Novgorod, Ryazan and Bryansk regions.
Preliminary results will be announced by the Russian CEC as early as Monday morning, at a briefing scheduled for 10:00 Moscow time.
Official final results will subsequently be announced by Federal election commissions.
Meanwhile, the party leader, Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the elections. "Everyone was expecting a party fiasco after the December elections, citing a manifest downward trend…However, nothing of the kind happened... Under quite different circumstances - such a result, "- said the head of the government. He urged all members of his party "to avoid conceit, and fulfill all that was promised," reports ITAR-TASS.
The final ballots in Russia’s nationwide day of voting were cast at 20.00 local time in Kaliningrad - the country’s westernmost region, where they were electing the mayor of Kaliningrad, and voting in several local elections.
On Sunday 77 of the 83 regions of the country held almost 5000 elections and referendums at different level. The voting spanned 21 hours, with the first polling stations opening at midnight Moscow time in the easternmost regions - Chukotka, Kamchatka and Magadan.
In five of the regions, the first since 2005 general elections of governors took place.
In another development, the law on simplifying procedures for registration of parties has entered into force in Russia. From the start of the year their number has soared from 7 to 40. 26 parties exercised their right to nominate candidates at the present elections.
Elections of governors and various kinds of referendums are taking place nearly all over Russia this Sunday.
Officially, Russia is divided into 83 regions. Elections and referendums are taking place in 77 of them.
Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Election Commission Leonid Ivlev says that the voters’ turnout at these elections is approximately the same as it was at the previous ones.
In the Belgorod region, the voters’ turnout is nearly 48%, in the Bryansk region – more than 34%, in the Novgorod region – 30%, in the Ryazan region – 35%.
