Russian military bases in Kyrgyzstan to ensure stability in Central Asia – Putin

Russian military bases in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will ensure stability in Central Asia after NATO forces leave Afghanistan, President Vladimir Putin said during the talks with his Kyrgyz counterpart Almazbek Atambayev in Bishkek.

Mr. Putin believes that no major changes will take place in Afghanistan after the ISAF forces are gone, and the Russian presence in the region could contribute to the war on terror.

Moscow and Bishkek signed a 15-year agreement on Thursday to set up a Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan, which will take effect in 2017.
