The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is concerned about North Korea’s nuclear programme, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano told the session of the Council of the IAEA Board of Directors that has opened in Vienna.

He says that over the past 3 months North Korea has advanced considerably in the construction of a light water reactor - one of the non-mentioned facilities in the Yongbyon nuclear centre.

And as regards to the other one – the uranium enrichment facility - without access to the territory of the Yongbyon nuclear centre, one can describe neither its configuration nor its exploitation condition, Amano said.

He urged Pyongyang to honour all its commitments in compliance with the Treaty on the Non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
