All responsible for Proton M failure to be punished - Medvedev

Speaking at a Cabinet session in Moscow on Thursday, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev promised to punish all those responsible for Monday’s failed satellite launch, a decision that he said would be announced later this week.

Medvedev pointed to a whole array of space sector-related failures that Russia has suffered in the past couple of years.

“This could not be tolerated anymore,” he said, adding that “Russia’s space sector is losing authority and billions of rubles.”

On August 7, the Proton-M rocket failed to put two telecommunications satellites into orbit after its upper stage failed to gain speed.
