Moscow warns Georgia against use of force

Georgian authorities still consider using force against the Caucasus republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said on Wednesday.

He specifically pointed to the fact that Georgian special forces continue to penetrate into Abkhazia’s cross-border areas, spreading terror among the population.

‘As for Tbilisi, it continues to fan fears of an alleged Russian threat in Georgia,’ Karasin said, voicing hope that common sense will prevail among top Georgian officials. ‘For this to happen, they should realize that hysteria should be replaced with a serious policy,’ he added.

Wednesday marks the 4th anniversary of Georgian aggression against South Ossetia. In 2008, Tbilisi attacked this republic and threatened to do so with respect to Abkhazia.

Russia was quick to stage a military operation to compel Georgia to peace.
