Russian cultural centre opens in Bethlehem

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chairman of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas have opened a Russian cultural centre in Bethlehem.

Putin declared at the opening ceremony that it was symbolic to open the centre in Bethlehem, the town of Jesus Christ which is known worldwide.

The centre has been built on the land which the Palestinian authorities gave to the Russian Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society four years ago.

The centre’s three thousand square metres of floor space accommodate a cinema, a library, a ballet studio and classrooms for teaching languages, including Russian.
