Rosen Plevneliev elected Bulgaria's new president

Rosen Plevneliev has won the Bulgarian presidential election, with a nearly 1.7 million votes cast in his favor. His victory means that the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) now controls all the major governmental posts, boosting its chances of pushing through economic reforms it says are vital to ensure Bulgaria’s growth and development.

Rosen Plevneliev has won the Bulgarian presidential election, with a nearly 1.7 million votes cast in his favor.

His victory means that the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) now controls all the major governmental posts, boosting its chances of pushing through economic reforms it says are vital to ensure Bulgaria’s growth and development.

Socialist challenger Ivailo Kalfin garnered 150,000 votes less and accepted defeat late on Sunday.
