K19 remembered on Loch Ness
This month marks 50 years since the averted nuclear accident on board the Soviet nuclear-powered submarine K19 in the Norwegian Sea. Quick thinking by the crew prevented a meltdown and saved northern Europe from what would have unfolded into a seaborne Chernobyl.
Some of the veterans of the sub, including Captain Oleg Adamov, remembered their ordeal by organizing a swim across Loch Ness in northern Scotland. The lake is known for ice-cold water, as well as Nessie.
