Italy shutters embassy in Yemen
Italy has temporarily closed its embassy in the Yemeni capital Sana’s and recalled its diplomatic staff from the troubled Arab state. Rome explains the decision by what it describes as a growing threat to the European diplomatic missions in the capital.
The past few days have seen fierce gun battles between the government forces and members of the opposition Hasheed tribe.
The Hasheed tribe the country’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh comes from, joined the anti-government forces in March. The widespread bloodshed in Sana’s has forced thousands of city residents to leave their homes.
