The Tambov Region has become a centre for nanotechnology innovations. The “Nanomir” inter-regional holding, which united the major scientific-research and production enterprises of Russia, has been set up on the basis of the Tambov State University.

Russia’s far-away regions have been known for their talented scientists – suffice it to mention here biologist Ivan Michurin, who, by the way, lived and worked in the Tambov Region. The government has allocated big sums for the establishment of the nanocentre under the Tambov State University. And today the Tambov State University, which has modern nanotechnology equipment, produces innovations for the army, police and the industry. This nanocentre has actually become the headquarters of the “Nanomir” Holding, the rector of the Tambov State University said Vladislav Yuriev said in an interview with the Voice of Russia:

"Today we have established contacts with foreign partners in the USA, Britain, and Japan, and these contacts enable us to sell our nano- produce abroad, including measuring equipment outperforming the existing analogs developed in the USA and Japan. Our produce is more effective and efficient. We have made prototypes, which have been tested in Russia, and the first models have already been sold to the USA, which has put them into practice."

There’s no doubt that besides launching the export of nanotechnology innovations, the nanocentre under the Tambov State University and its partners in the holding are engaged in serious science. Among other things, they study how nano- materials influence animals, which pose a danger to both humans and the environment. The Director of the Centre of Medical  Ecology and Nano-Toxicology Under the Tambov State University Alexander Gusev said in an interview with the Voice of Russia that such a list  is due  to appear next year. Producers of nanomaterials, who are responsible for the use of such materials in various branches of industry, will be the first to study it.
