Egypt PM reinstates Antiquities Minister
Egypt’s Prime Minister Essam Sharaf has reinstated Zahi Hawass in the post of Minister of State for Antiquities.
Hawass resigned along with the rest of the Cabinet ministers at the beginning of March amid public discontent over the activities of the interim government.
Zahi Hawass headed the Supreme Council for Antiquities under President Mubarak.
Dozens of archaeological monuments and museums across Egypt were plundered during the recent unrest.
A total of 63 valuables were stolen from the National Museum in Cairo.
