Russians high on Olympic list
The American magazine “Around the Rings” has listed Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov and the head of the Sochi 2014 Olympics Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernichenko among the 25 most influential personalities of the Olympic movement. Mr. Zhukov occupies the 5th place in the list, and Mr. Chernichenko – the 15th.
The first place belongs to the President of the World Olympic Committee, Mr. Jacques Rogge, the second – to the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the London 2012 Olympics and a two-time Olympic champion in track-and-field athletics Sebastian Coe. Next are the President of the Association of National Olympic Committees Mario Vaskes Rana and the Asian Olympic Committee’s President sheikh Akhmad Al-Sabah.
Besides this list, the magazine, for the first time in its existence, held readers’ popularity poll this year. More than one third of the subscribers chose Dmitry Chernichenko, 23.2% - the US Olympic Committee’s Chairman Scott Blackmann and 8.9% - Jacques Rogge. Next came the head of the International Federation of Equestrian Sports Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein and the World Anti-doping Agency’s Chairman David Howman.
