Putin presents awards at Russian Geographical Society Congress

At the 14th Congress of the Russian Geographical Society Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin presented awards to citizens for their contribution to the development of geography.

At the 14th Congress of the Russian Geographical Society Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin presented awards to citizens for their contribution to the development of geography. In particular, the Konstantinovskaya medal was awarded by him to Professor of Moscow State University Nikolai Drozdov "For promotion of geographic culture and popularization of science."

According to the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, President of the Geographic society, Sergei Shoigu, this medal was reestablished only recently. "It was made as an exact replica of the one 100 years ago, and today it was awarded for the first time to our wonderful colleague," - he said. The small gold medal went to Moscow State University Professor Alexey Naumov "For the dissemination of geographical knowledge, public support in the study of geography."

The same award, only for development of scientific work in the sphere of geography, was awarded to 1st year student of the Moscow State University Xenia Sokolova. As Putin noted, the small gold medal had been also lost. "One very nice person bought it abroad at one of the auctions, brought it over and gave it to me. And now we have reestablished it, Sberbank bank began minting it, and awarding it on behalf of the Russian Geographical Society" – said the Russian head of government.

Also awarded an honorary diploma were TV journalist Anastasia Chernobrovina, for her feature about Tiksi, and Maria Morgun -  for a program dedicated to Kamchatka, RIA Novosti reported.
