Kyrgyz police arrest riot suspects

Police in Kyrgyzstan have captured several people suspected of organizing the mass rioting in the south of the republic, as well as mercenary snipers, said Kyrgyz Deputy Premier Azimbek Beknazarov. This became the first substantial achievement of a recently formed interdepartmental working group investigating Kyrgyzstan’s worst ethnic violence in many years.

Police in Kyrgyzstan have captured several people suspected of organizing the mass rioting in the south of the republic, as well as mercenary snipers, said Kyrgyz Deputy Premier Azimbek Beknazarov.

This became the first substantial achievement of a recently formed interdepartmental working group investigating Kyrgyzstan’s worst ethnic violence in many years. Beknazarov stressed that the detained snipers were mercenaries from other countries, which cannot be named for legal reasons.

A total of 30 criminal charges have already been filed against those involved in the organization and provocation of public disorder in the southern city of Osh, the official said.
