White House offers condolences over Gaidar's death
The White House has offered expressions of sympathy over the death of the Yeltsin-era deputy Russian Premier Yegor Gaidar.
Spokesman for the National Security Council Michael Hammer described him as a top-notch intellectual, a true Russian patriot and a leading brain behind Russia’s political and economic reforms in the past two decades. Although controversial, Gaidar’s legacy formed the foundation of a dynamic market-based economy and is destined to live on, Mr Hammer said. He added that Yegor would be badly missed by all who knew him.
