The House of Artists has never been for artists only, though it was built at their expense. It is the largest gallery on post-Soviet territory, uniting artists from the CIS countries into Artistic Unions of the former Soviet republics.

The House of Artists is mainly a very popular cultural center visited by 30 mln people in 30 years. However, the building located in the center of town , along the Moscow river is considered at odds with the old historical style of the district. The authorities plan to demolish the gallery constructed in the late Soviet modernism style. Hundreds of people are against the demolition, including the famous musical journalist Artemiy Troitsky.

The Central House of Artists is a center of Moscow’s cultural life, says Artemiy, it houses the exhibition of our cultural achievements. It has various cultural institutions , beginning from framing workshops to exhibition halls, such as Arch-Moscow. The House hosts the famous book fair of intellectual literature Non-Fiction and the Moscow Open Book festival. There is a concert hall for various performers representing different music trends. There exists a project “Cinema Museum in the CHA” and regular cinema shows. You can also find galleries, antique shops and modern art exhibitions at the New Tretyakov Gallery. There is no other place like this in Moscow, If it is destroyed a huge part of Moscow cultural life will vanish.

Luckily, cultural destruction is a thing of the past, said Yuri Podporenko, the spokesman of the International Artists’ Confederation that owns the House.

Now we are working in our normal way without any emergency situations. We even plan to open a new exhibition hall soon .
